Skin RevitalAthermic Led light photo-rejuvenation

This is an IML protocol, specifically designed for overall photo-rejuvenation of the skin. As its name suggests, is intended to revitalise the skin after the summer, aiding it through the change of season. Handled exclusively by our dermatologists, it combines dermal exposure to two types of light, which:

  • Rejuvenates and reaffirms withered skin, thanks to intense stimulation on the fibroblasts, which are induced to synthesise new collagen and elastic fibres.
  • Removes the stigmas of photoageing such as blemishes, fine wrinkles and lack of radiance.
  • Prevents malignant lesions (photo chemoprophylaxis) thanks to its deep therapeutic effect, capable of eliminating suspicious atypical cells.

The Treatment

It is carried out with athermic Led light at 413 or 633 nm, which is emitted on the area to be treated, following the application of a photosensitive agent (ALA) capable of increasing the photosensitivity of the cells loaded with pigment that typically appear with photoageing.

The photosensitisation effect is produced by the release of porphyrin (a precursor of the HEME group included in the haemoglobin molecule) from the topically applied substance (ALA). Porphyrin presents an absorption peak at 633 nm that confers a penetrability of up to 5 mm.

Next, a gentle light emission is applied, which, in the presence of oxygen, produces photo-oxidation of the biological materials marked and their selective cellular elimination, reaching complete dehydration.

The surface crust resulting from this induced "drying", is naturally eliminated 3 or 4 days later, along with the pigmented keratinocytes. Along with the elimination of the spots achieved by the combination of these two emissions, there are also the following benefits:

  • Revitalisation of the skin, acting on the mitochondria, the skin cells' energy supply.
  • Improved firmness, by increasing the activity of fibroblasts as well as collagen and elastin producing cells.
  • Improved skin tone, by stimulating neoformation of blood vessels.
  • Increased skin radiance and clarity, by achieving higher oxygenation.
  • Reduced tissue inflammation that accompanies skin ageing.

Step by Step

  • The patient undergoes a gentle peeling to clean and prepare the area to be treated.
  • Next, the photosensitive agent is applied, a cream that is exposed for a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 3 hours, depending on the severity of the photoageing and the penetration required for the therapy.
  • Once the incubation time is complete, the area is irradiated. Between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the severity. This is performed by bathing the skin with general light.
  • On concluding the treatment the skin is slightly pink, and a moisturising cream and make-up can be applied. The pink colouring will last for 3-5 days. A crust may appear where there were spots or specific keratosis but the rejuvenation effect is overall.

The intensity of treatment with Skin Revital depends on the concentration of the photosensitive agent, its incubation time and the exposure time to the athermic light. These parameters are in accordance with the degree of tissue photoageing and the characteristics of the skin in the area to be treated.

This procedure requires 1 to 3 sessions depending on the outcome sought. The patient should avoid sun exposure for 2-3 days and should use total sun block for a month.
