IML, avant-garde Body-Contouring 01/09

On January 26, IML opened its doors to the Press for the national presentation of the most avant-garde technology in Body-Contouring: Endymed and Laser Sculpture.
IML incorporates third generation radio frequency to its technical equipment: Endymed RF Deep™, the most advanced technology for the treatment of facial and body flaccidity. This new device focuses and concentrates the current towards the deepest layers of skin, increasing the treatment’s efficiency and painlessly protecting the epidermis.
The directors at IML also presented the technique of laser sculpture or laser lipolysis, a new laser application for the elimination of adipose tissue, which has outstanding advantages over conventional liposuction. Through a laser light optical fibre introduced under the skin, the lysis or fat destruction is achieved.  It liquefies and the skin shrinks in those areas with greatest risk of laxity after emptying the fat content. Both bruising and recovery period is reduced and the patient can go back to their normal routine just 24 hours after the procedure.

Lift Express: more natural, faster and less invasive 11/08

The Lift Express technique was developed in San Diego and improved by IML thanks to its knowledge of laser.  It offers numerous advantages with respect to conventional facelifts in all its variants. Lift Express is less aggressive, minimally incisive; it is an outpatient procedure that achieved more natural results.

Laser Eye Surgery at IML 07/08

Sight is the most perfect and evolved human sense. Most of the movements, ideas, sensations and emotions we perceive are linked to the information we receive through our eyes. Visual defects such are myopia, farsightedness or astigmatism cause blurred vision and can be a hindrance in the performance of normal sporting, professional or social activities. Laser surgery provides a precise, safe, efficient and ambulatory solution for all visual defects.

From July 2008, Instituto Medico Laser provides its patients with the latest technological advances in Laser Eye Surgery through its ophthalmology team lead by Professor Fernandez-Vigo, one of the most prestigious ophthalmologists in the country.

Macrolane™: Hyaluronic Acid for the Body 06/08

Instituto Medico Laser presents Macrolane™, the first body filler using non-animal hyaluronic acid. Treatment indicated for those body areas that need to recover volume such as the calves, breasts or skin imperfections caused by surgery. Macrolane™ is based on NASHA™ technology, a stabilisation process of biotechnological hyaluronic acid, achieving a biodegradable gel which remains in the body longer and reduces the risks involved with substances of animal origin.

Four new alternatives against facial aging 04/08

Since all skins are unique, IML presents four new non-surgical solutions to correct the signs of aging:

• REJUVEFLEX: Treatment exclusive to Instituto Medico Laser that corrects all types of wrinkles and recovers facial volume lost over the years.
• PUSH UP RETENSABLES: A system using threads to retract facial flabbiness.  These can be retightened in the event of subsequent loss of firmness.
• MINIPUSH UP LIFTING: The threads reposition the deepest tissue while eliminating excess skin.
• PERIOCULAR REJUVENATION: A volume recomposing technique that uses tightening elements and hyaluronic acid microinjections.

Skin Rejuvenation with Deep FX 04/08

Instituto Medico Laser has included Deep FX amongst its equipment for the treatment of deep wrinkles and acne scars. Deep FX achieves fast epidermis regeneration, acting on the mid and deep skin layers and leaving the surface untouched.

Confocal Microscopy at IML 04/08

Instituto Medico Laser patients can now benefit from the advantages of confocal laser microscopy, a non-invasive microscopic observation system by which real-time histological images are obtained. It is painless, fast, there is no need for a biopsy and offers excellent resolution and contrast. All of these factors favour a safer and more effective dermatological diagnosis.

ICOONE: Based on the Concept of Skin Alveolar 03/08

Icoone is the new cellulite treatment available at Instituto Medico Laser from March 2008. The skin is truly a multivacuolar, multifragmented tissue to which the MMSA system adapts, a technology applied by Icoone. It consists of applying aspirating pressure with the rollers that adapt perfectly to the skin's alveolar structure, acting against the cellulite and skin laxity in the trochanters, thighs, abdomen and arms.

Soprano SHR with Total Power Control 03/08

Instituto Medico Laser has decided to carry out five safety, efficiency and parameterising studies on the Super Hair Removal technology. This initiative has provided important conclusions about the application method of this technology, given that from the start, the number of applications per area or the intensity used according to the type of hair, has been random and confused.

Nutrition, a key factor in the prevention of cellulite.
02/08

Several studies point out that the appearance of cellulite is tied to the toxins produced by bad eating and hygiene habits: diets low in fibre, tight clothing, sugars and fats that reduce cell oxygenation.  The blood is saturated by toxins and these accumulate in critical body areas.

AFFINITY 02/08

IML has included the Dual Affinity laser system to its technical range. It consists of a powerful Q-Switched Neodymium laser suitable for the elimination of tattoos and pigmented lesions. Affinity combines two types of wavelength: 1064 nm and 532 nm. This feature allows treatment of both superficial and deep pigmented lesions in just one session, without affected adjacent tissue.

Correction of dark circles under eyes with Sculptra 11/07

Dark circles under eyes caused by the passing of time produce flaccidity and lessening of the volume in the suborbital region, from the tear duct to the cheek, drawing a line, which divides the face in two and creates a tired and hard look.
Dr Perez-Sevilla, maxillofacial surgeon at IML, corrects this defect using Sculptra infiltrations, polymerised poly-lactic-acid filler that increases volume and activates collagen production.

IML includes hair transplants in its treatments 04/07

There are treatments (Minoxidyl, Finasteride) that avoid the advancing of alopecia and maintain the hair that one already has.  Nevertheless, the only solution to recover lost hair in partially or totally barren areas is via hair transplants. Specialist surgeons with a vast knowledge of plastic surgery and graft biology are the only professionals qualified to undergo this minimally invasive outpatient technique that allows the patient to carry on with daily activity, lacking in risk factors that would alter the patient's clinical conditions. Instituto Medico Laser benefits from his experience as well as its health staff and the appropriate facilities to carry out this procedure with all manner of guarantees.

Strategic Touch Ups 04/07
Prominent chin, rabbit wrinkles, drooping nose... These and other small defects that quite often in the past needed surgery to correct can now be resolved with a new “touch up” technique using corrective materials (Vistabell) and different types of fillers (Aquamid, Sculptra, Hyaluronic). Absolute precision is required for this intervention as well as a very sharp handling of the implants and a profound anatomical knowledge of the face’s structure. Dr. Gemma Perez Sevilla, maxillofacial surgeon and aesthetic physician at the Instituto Medico Laser uses this method to soften the features and improve the expression without causing a radical change in the middle and lower thirds of the face.

Organic silicon infiltrations against body flaccidity 02/07

Silicon is one of the most important active ingredients in the reaffirming creams currently on the market. The novelty lies in the fact that the Spanish Drug Agency (Agencia Española del Medicamento) has just approved Organic Silicon injections for medical-aesthetic use after having been applied in Europe for years. It had been prohibited for a long time; therefore it was not given its just importance as an excellent treatment to combating body tissue flaccidity.

Comparative study of facial lasers 01/07

Fillers, botulinum toxin, use of equipment…  There are numerous procedures in aesthetic medicine and surgery that have been developed over the past few years aimed at obtaining a remarkable facial rejuvenation. Coinciding with the inauguration of its new headquarters at the Palacio de Nerva, IML presents the results of a comparative study carried out on 30 patients using three new pieces of equipment: Active and Affirm lasers and Rhytec plasma light.

Palacio De Nerva, new IML headquarters 12/06

Exactly a century had to pass before the Palacio de Nerva reopened its doors under the Instituto Medico Laser banner and renovation. It was rescued from oblivion to be converted into a modern medical-aesthetic treatment clinic.  This building is an outstanding example of late 19th and early 20th century Madrid architecture.  The Widowed Marchioness de la Oliva y Nerva commissioned the architect Valentin Roca y Carbonell (1863 – 1937) to build it.  This small palace just managed to survive the renovation spree that ruined similar buildings in the Paseo de la Castellana area.  Its construction was finalized in 1906 and at the time the address was number 17 of Paseo del Obelisco, one of the main arteries leading to the outskirts and which marked the Madrid city limits at the time.

Push Up Threads 11/06

This is a material in the form of a thread as thin as a hair which has been used successfully for years in reconstructive surgery. They have been used for over seven years in the USA for the correction of tissue flaccidity and sagging in the face and neck. The advantage of these over other subcutaneous threads is that the suture with microscopic cogs placed in helicoidal (spiral) symmetry comes with a tiny hook on one end that can be attached to a fixed structure, thus avoiding the risk of movement.

Lip aesthetics 10/06

A lack of volume, poor line definition or peribuccal wrinkles are the main aesthetic problems concerned with the lips.  It is an area of the face that changes over the years due to tissue atrophy and dehydration. Factors such as bone growth and the development of dental structures, highly corrective orthodontia or repeated labial herpes infections can also alter their physiognomy.   The applications of accurate and discreet fillers as well as the use of chemical or physical peelings are the best tools for correcting these conditions.

New anatomical implants 10/06

Penrose Plastie, a leading French company marketing mammary implants has introduced the Plastic Surgeons at IML to a new prototype that increases naturalness in results of augmentation mammoplasty. These prostheses are made out of highly cohesive gel and stand out from the rest because they take into account not only the vertical but also the horizontal axes of the breast. This is a very innovative approach that allows for correction of the mammary axle, forgotten to date.

10 questions on laser epilation 05/06
How does a laser work in hair removal? It works on the principle of selective photothermolysis, eliminating the hair follicle and causing no damage to neighbouring structures. The laser emits light pulses that are selectively absorbed by the target chromophore or melanin present in each hair. Other chromophores in the skin are water and haemoglobin.
