Laser Lipolysis

Laser Lipolysis is a minimally invasive ambulatory procedure which does not require major anaesthesia or wearing compression garments over long periods of time. The patient can go back to normal activities 24 hours after the procedure, thus reducing surgical risks.

Laser Lipolysis technology is based on the application of a Neodymium-YAG laser to destroy the adipocytes without affecting surrounding tissue. The procedure requires local anaesthetic in lower amounts than for a traditional liposuction. A 1 mm wide cannula is inserted in the adipose tissue through a tiny incision. The laser probe is introduced into the cannula where the fatty tissue is destroyed.

Three phenomena take place:

• Photo thermal effect: destruction of the fat cells by the Nd:YAG laser's heat emission.
• Photo mechanical effect: disruption of the adipocytes causing molecular movement derived from adipose tissue heating.
• Photo acoustic effect: break down of the adipocyte membrane with acoustic vibration from the laser emission's short pulse.

The adipose tissue transforms into a less compact, liquid substance which is much easier to eliminate. The aspiration technique is performed with a 2 mm wide cannula using the same device as for a liposuction.
The Nd:YAG laser, besides destroying the adipose tissue, carries out other functions: on the one hand, it reduces bleeding due to its coagulating capabilities and on the other, the heat it generates contracts the bands of collagen, which revitalises the skin.
No hospitalisation is required after the intervention. The patient is home a few hours later, wearing a discreet compression bandage which is removed a week later.
Laser Lipolysis is recommended for the safe and effective elimination of small areas localised fat in difficult areas such as the chin, love handles, saddle bags, upper back, knees, inner thighs and axillary region.
